The mercurial Cheepskates began life as an anomaly on New York's garage-rock scene: when most of their peers were scouring exurbia for vintage paisleys and vinyl (the more primitive the better, on both counts), this low-key quartet was creating some of the most carefully crafted pure pop to escape from those Seed-y halls.
Run Better Run, dominated by Shane Faubert's bouncy (but not overly retro) Farfisa organ and clear, expressive voice, attests to the group's originality. Usually smart, occasionally precious songs like "Gone for Good" and "That's When I Say Goodbye" are reminiscent of the Zombies' art-school pop. Refreshingly cover-free (all four members write; three swap lead vocals), the disc is a timeless pleasure.(Trouser Press)
Led by singer/guitarist Shane Faubert, the Cheepskates were a big part of the '80s revival of the garage rock scen...

The Stems came roaring out of Perth in the mid Eighties with a sound and style that definitively captured the spirit and enthusiasm of sixties garage music - lurching fuzz-tone guitars, brooding organ and solid gold garage-trash! At the core of it all though The Stems wrote some awesome songs, made great records and put on exciting live shows. Tracks like Make You Mine, Love Will Grow and Tears Me In Two mark them out as one of the truly great Australian acts of the Eighties.

Black Angel's Death Song - Nothing Equals Nothing/What Do You Mean (Dionysus ID074522) Black Angel's Death Song were form Los Angeles, formed by J Francis Connors (Pirate Radio, Trash Can School), and Jack Gould (Flower Quartet, Trash Can School). They managed to release 3 CDs, and 5 7"s. Their sound in this single is raw 60s garagepunk, with loud guitars and primitive drums, although in later releases you can hear some VU influences.

Perpetually handicapped by the lack of sophisticated sound equipment which in BEAT music constitutes a critical factor in the success of the group, The Savages never lost their spirit . They arrived on 17/10/1967 at a annual Beat Competition and were acclaimed as Bombay's best. Immediately after this success ,they cut their first single "Girl Next Door" / "Pain".
On 28/2/1969 The Savages strike again earning the Sound Trophy for their "Curiosity Satisfied". More singles continued...but they never managed to make a major success.
Fortunately so...

Black Sun Ensemble - 1989 - Lambent Flame“Black Sun Ensemble might be the ultimate example of desert rock. Guitarist Jesus Acedo summons up inspiration from influences like the Grateful Dead, Captain Beefheart and John Fahey, leading his band through a series of fascinating, atmospheric compositions, all of which fall somewhere between the psychedelic and the mystic.” RECORD COLLECTOR Black Sun Ensemble hit ...

A group from Washington, DC scene, better known in Europe, than in the U.S. Their first record, 'From Parts Unknown' was originally released on Dacoit (Kim 'Slickee Boys' Kane's label) and was produced by Mark Noone, another Slickee Boy. It was reissued in 1986 by the french label New Rose. Their second LP, 'Behind These Walls' was released in 1988 again on New Rose. In the 90s they released 'PsychoMetalPop - The Lost Cause of the Beatnik Flies', a compilation CD from their LPs. They reunited in 2004. In their website they're announcing a new record (end of 2005) which apparently never came out. -Edit: the record came out! see the comments. Beatnik Flies were considered part of the garage/psychedelic revival of the 80s, but I don't think this is totally...

After the huge success of the previous post w/7" singles, here's seven more. To get serious, garage, no matter if it's first, second or fifth generation, if it's the original 60s' or the revivalist 80s' garage, is built on SONGS. Not LPs or CDs, but songs. The garage legends are built on the little 7"s which the bands themselves in most cases put out. Don't get me wrong: I'm not against albums, I'm just talking exclusively for the garage bands, not for other genres.

Here are seven singles (a & b sides) from seven U.S. groups. Almost all are non-LP. I've included the links to other releases from these bands - and there are quite a few. The link for the 7"s is at the end of this post.
Burning Rain - Climb To The Sky/Crystal Colord CloudThis was released in 1990 on Rockadelic in 500 copies. Psychedelia in the finest 13 Floor Elevators tradition. Burning Rain from Texas have at least 6 LPs, one of them you can find in the Teen Trash series (soon to be re-posted)....

After
the great Battle of the Garages post here's another one from Voxx
records. Includes 8 bands from the middle and eastern US, with a bit
harder garage sound than the previous compilations. Most of them were
active in the 80s, and a few (Dwarves, Cynics, Time Beings) 'till today.
From Voxx press release: Compilation
of bands from the eastern part of the country who arrived just a bit
too late for our Battle of the Garages series. Compiled by Timothy
Gassen (Marshmallow Overcoat & Knights of Fuzz author) and
featuring some of our most gloriously colorful, exotic, oriental
artwork,...

The legendary 1968 US psych album . A fine example of the West Coast psychedelic flower power sound with male and female harmonies, beautiful fuzz guitars and very trippy keyboard work. Excellent originals(pay attention to the amazing "If In Swimming") are combined with covers of "Catch The Wind", "The Times They Are A-Changing" and "Let’s Get Together". A 'must-have' for West Coast fans !Download Link
