I was just re-listening to some Sonny Sharrock boots the other day and pulled this out to give it another spin. Either my tastes have changed or an alchemical transubstantiation took place - this album is now pure gold! I thought it was great before, but it knocks my socks off and then eats them in front of me now.
Last Exit were a monstrously punky free jazz supergroup (cribbing a bit from their Wikipedia article here), "composed of electric guitarist Sonny Sharrock, drummer/occasional vocalist Ronald Shannon Jackson, saxophonist Peter Brötzmann, and bass guitarist Bill Laswell." This list of names alone should be enough to make your ears bleed and your slack-jawed mouth drool. There is probably no kind of music these fellows can't play or haven't played - and extremely well at that.
This album is the result of a crazed tour of Europe and, uh, Pennsylvania, in 1987 - all live recordings with great sound. Here's a multiply misappropriated review from AMG (via Get Music, via ... Read more »
Zu Zu's Petals - Babblin' Mules/Shipwrecked (Susstones IMS 547, 1990) Zu Zu's Petals were 3 girls from Madison, WI. They started in the "riot-grrrl" era, but even in this (their first) single, I can see that they tried to be different. They managed to put out some 7s and two LPs, until 1994, when they disbanded. Their singer Laurie Lindeen wrote a book about those years (Petal Pusher) and is now married to Paul Westerberg. You can see a video of her here.... Read more »
I suppose I'm an artist or at least I'll get you to think so
Simple
and minimal songs, played mainly with synthesizers and sequencers, but
also with real guitars, bass and drums. It's definately a curiosity in
the post/dark scene of Los Angeles in the late 80s: a trio, Aliz, Gigi
and Robert, possibly art students, created this record of tribal/vocal drone... Read more »

Jeff Tarlton - 2000 - Sinner (Limited 4 Song 7" EP) Delerium Records HASH02
Side A : A1 Sinner A2 Trapezoid
Side B : B1 Na Ja B2 Lucifer
Very hard to find four track EP by the underground US troubadour who invented the 2005 psych folk revival in 1997. Keen to prove he's a man of many talents Jeff Tarlton gives it his all on this great EP which features four tracks ranging from acoustic fragile beauty through to all out Motor City acid rock. Jeffs high energy power trio cover version of Bob Seger's 'Lucifer' is particularly engrossing.

Review : The
band's first release came as a violent punch in the stomach to the
unsuspecting Greek scene of 1990. Raw and romantic at the same time,
established Deus Ex Machina as
one of the biggest names for the years to come until today. A true
classic! Current CD includes fully remastered original album with bonus
tracks of long out of print band singles, complete with extra rare,
older material previously released on compilations only, plus the
infamous "Execute/Iraq'n'Roll" single. ... Read more »
