I
wasn't actually sure where to classify this. Most tracks are in the
Northern Soul vein, yet personnel hails from other genres.
Anyway....
Fans
of Ritchie Blackmore would probably know this album. It was recorded in
1970 in De Lane Lea studios, London, and it allegedly began as a
session jam. Ritchie Blackmore, Albert Lee, Big Jim Sullivan & Tony
Ashton are among the musicians. It was produced by Derek Lawrence and
engineered by Martin Birch. The tracks are mostly in the Northern Soul
style, as I mention above, and production quality is fairly good. The
musicians are in a loose form and Blackmore doesn't really sound very
decent, since he manages to overindulge in those fast-and-tedious riff... Read more »

Manassas (Stephen Stills) - 1972 - Manassas
'Manassas' is the 1972 debut double album from Stephen Stills' band of the same name. The album peaked at #4 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart. "It Doesn't Matter" was released as a single and peaked at #61. Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones plays bass on and co-authored "The Love Gangster." Stills considers the album to be among his best work. It is perhaps the most highly regarded of Stills' solo albums... Read more »

Pete Townshend - Genuine Scoop (The Ultimate Scoop Set)
(Pete Townshend Demos) 5 Discs SHN Format
Billed
as home studio recordings from 1965-1975, this set is a pretty
monumental collection of Townsend's demos. The nature of the material
makes it impossible to tell how comprehensive it is, but a quick glance
imparts that this collection very nicely supercedes a series of
releases, both underground and sanctioned. As any Who fan knows,
Townsend's home demos make for fascinating listening -- many of the
arrangements, licks, and even vocal phrasing is already present on
these rougher takes. Add to that a sort of... Read more »

Andrew, Getz and Gurley were joined by Nick Gravenites (vocals), Dave Schallock (guitar) and Kathi McDonald
(vocals), plus many others on occasion. This lineup lasted until 1972,
after which the band performed together only once in 15 years.

The rock era saw a few white female singers, like Janis Joplin,
show they could sing the blues. But one who could outshine them all --
Jo Ann Kelly -- seemed to slip through the cracks, mostly because she
favored the acoustic, Delta style rather than rocking out with a heavy
band behind her. But with a huge voice, and a strong guitar style
influenced by Memphis Minnie and Charley Patton, she was the queen.

In
the year 1989 Norwegian progressive rock label Colours released Utopian
